How to describe your service so people find it

Most service listings look much the same: "All construction work undertaken. Call me." That listing is not bad — it simply says nothing. Someone who needs a kitchen tap replaced has no idea whether you do that, roughly what it costs, or whether you would even drive to their part of town.

A listing people reply to differs from that one not in prettier words but in being specific.

What you can list

Services on Findings are their own category — "Darbas, paslaugos". It has fourteen areas:

If your service fits nowhere exactly, pick "Other" and say plainly in the title what you do. A precise title in an imprecise category beats the reverse.

One service, one listing

This is the most important rule, and the one most often ignored.

If you cut hair and also do manicures, that is two services, not one. Create a separate listing for each, with its own title, price and photos. The reason is simple: people search for a manicure, not for "beauty services in general". A listing with everything in it is found by none of those searches.

What to fill in

Title

Short and specific. It should contain the service itself — the word someone would type into a search.

Short description

One line under the title. Location belongs here, and whatever sets you apart.

Description

This is where someone decides whether to message you. Four things worth writing:

  1. What exactly you do. Not "plumbing work undertaken" but "I replace taps, toilets and basins, connect washing machines and dishwashers, and replace pipework in flats".
  2. What you don't do. It saves you both time. "I don't repair central heating systems."
  3. How long you have worked and on what. Without embellishment: "Working since 2015, mostly in older flats in Žvėrynas and Naujamiestis."
  4. How the job runs. Whether you come to look first, how quickly you reply, whether you invoice. "I reply the same day and come to assess for free."

Three specific sentences are worth more than ten about "quality and reliability". Everyone writes those, so they mean nothing.

Price

A price is optional, but listings that have one get more replies. People don't write when they don't know whether they can afford you at all.

You can choose how it is counted:

If the price varies a lot, pick "From" and explain in the description what it depends on. That is more honest than giving nothing.

Area you cover

Give the distance in kilometres from your location. The listing shows on a map, so people see immediately whether you are within reach.

Don't write "all of Lithuania" if you would not really drive more than fifty kilometres. A call-out you turn down costs more than one that never came.

Photos

At least one is required. Photos of work you have done work best — not a logo, and not a stock image.

There is also a separate cover photo, a wide band across the top of the listing. It looks best at 1600×600 px.

For a hairdresser that means examples of cuts. For a plumber, finished pipework. For a photographer, a portfolio. If you have no work photos yet, a tidy picture of your workspace will do.

Bookings

If you work by appointment, turn on "Accept bookings". People then see your free slots and book themselves, without the back and forth of "Tuesday maybe? Or Thursday?".

It suits hairdressers, tutors and massage therapists — anyone whose work is measured in hours.

Links and phone

You can add a website, Facebook and Instagram — https addresses only. Instagram is especially valuable where the result is visible: beauty treatments, photography, furniture making.

Verifying your phone number adds a badge showing the number is real. It is a small thing, but to a stranger it means a lot.

Two examples

Before:

Cleaning services. Fast, high quality, affordable. Enquire within.

After:

I clean flats and houses in Kaunas after building work and for deep cleans. I wash windows, clean inside kitchen appliances and clear construction dust. I don't take on regular weekly cleaning.

I work with my own equipment. A two-room flat after a renovation takes roughly 4 hours.

From €70, depending on floor area and condition. I reply the same day.

Before:

Tutor. Maths. Experienced.

After:

Maths tutor for years 9–12. I prepare students for the state matura exam and fill gaps when a topic has already been covered at school.

Twelve years teaching, seven of them on exam preparation. I work online and in person in Šiauliai.

€25/hr. The first lesson is a conversation and an assessment of where you are, and I don't charge for it.

The difference is not style. In the second version the reader knows straight away whether you are right for them.

In short

Posting a service listing takes about ten minutes. The photos take longer than the text.
